How did H&M think this was acceptable?
You have to wonder who is on their diversity committee or who is on their marketing team?
According to the New York Daily News, the major fashion conglomerate H&M published a Black boy in their children section wearing a “coolest monkey in the jungle” sweater.
The fact that nobody with common sense tried to retract this image before releasing it on the website is appalling. And it is even more offensive and insensitive that H&M went into production and was willing to sell these sweaters to the public.
Soon enough social media users caught wind of the story and had rebuttals of their own. Even the HuffPost used terms to describe this atrocity such as “carelessness,” “cluelessness,” and “a lack of diversity in decision-making positions.”

H&M then released a lackluster apology to the New York Daily News, when they should have spoken with a Black-driven publication such as Blavity, The Root, Black Voices, and many more.
“This image has now been removed from all H&M channels and we apologize to anyone this may have offended,” the fashion conglomerate told Daily News.
However, songwriter Chris Classic photoshopped the image to turn a PR disaster into a positive reinforcement for the Black community.
I made this because I dont wanna see this young Kings face anymore with the shirt he was hired to wear by H&M. I'm almost certain the Persson Family and their $31 Billion wont care in Sweden but… this lil guy will see his pics and the mockery one day because the internet doesnt erase… so I just hope he gets to see this one or any like it that celebrate him. #mysavoirfaire
Lastly, whoever is this child’s parent needs to be more cautious about the photoshoot gigs their son receives in the future because sometimes there are employers who will take advantage of the situation.
