Dr. Dre is giving back to the city that made him the man people see today.
Compton, California — Hip-hop icon Dr. Dre announced around two weeks ago, that he is planning to donate $10 million to the new performing arts center at Compton High School, according to the Compton Unified School District.
The performing arts center will have the high-quality equipment, digital media production studios, and resource facilities. The center is expected to serve an estimated 2,500 students, according to LA Times.
“My goal is to provide kids with the kind of tools and learning they deserve. The performing arts center will be a place for young people to be creative in a way that will help further their education and positively define their future,” said Dr. Dre.
As reported by LA Times, the Compton native is one of the primary fundraisers acquiring capital to complete the project by 2020.
“The support that Dre has shown to Compton over the years is unwavering and we are so excited that we will now be home to one of the greatest performing arts centers in the country,” said Satra Zurita, president of Compton Unified’s governing board of trustees.
