22-Year-Old Father Accused of Raping and Murdering His Daughter but the Case was Dismissed
A father’s reputation will forever be ruined.
Inkster, Michigan — A list of charges against 22-year-old African-American father James Lee Saltmarshall were dropped “in the best interest of justice,” according to the Wayne County Prosecutors’ Office.
However, allegations that Saltmarshall physically and sexually abuses his baby had already reached the public and media platforms.
In April, Saltmarshall was accused of raping and murdering his 8-month-old daughter, Janiyah, at an Inkster hotel and he was charged with first-degree murder, first-degree child abuse, and first-degree criminal sexual conduct, according to CBS Detroit.
After the young father was arrested his bail was set at $2 million, but he was released on a GPS tracker because the authorities realized he was not a flight risk.
On Jun. 16, the Wayne County Medical Examiner released the reports and it showed that the caused of death was asphyxia, according to MLive. It was later confirmed through further forensic testing Saltmarshall accidentally rolled on top of the baby while sleeping.
When Saltmarshall finally woke up from sleep his daughter unresponsive and immediately called for medical assistances. Prosecutors decided to dismiss the case. And last Thursday, Judge Sabrina Johnson granted the motion that Saltmarshall is a free man.
Even though Saltmarshall avoided trail, he still lost someone dear to him.
