Tyreke Smith: “I wanted to bring attention to the epidemic of blacks being killed at an alarming rate.”
Columbus, Ohio — A captivating photo is circling the internet, and a 17-year-old high school prospect is getting a lot of attention. Tyreke Smith went on a recruiting trip at the Ohio State University facilities, wearing a controversial t-shirt that reflects what happens to black people in America.

He uploaded the picture to Twitter on Jun. 17 and thousands of social media users and major media sites shared the story. Smith purposely wore the shirt knowingly that photographers would take pictures of him.
“I decided to wear the shirt because I wanted to bring attention to the epidemic of blacks being killed at an alarming rate. What we would like to do is have people talk about these issues to reduce the murder rate of African Americans,” said Smith in an ElevenWarriors.com interview.
Several sources believe that Smith wore the t-shirt to remind people about the Tamir Rice case, which occurred in his hometown of Cleveland, according to The Root.

However, Smith is a highly recruited football player from Ohio. He attends Cleveland Heights High School as a junior defensive end and plans to further his football career.
